Deputy Governor Manderson Announces Retirement

Today (Wednesday,13 August 2025) the Deputy Governor, Honourable Franz Manderson gave notice of his intention to retire from the Cayman Islands Civil Service next year.  The retirement will take effect on 7 July 2026. 

Official notice was given to Her Excellency The Governor, members of Cabinet and the Civil Service senior leadership team. Additionally, in a memo to civil servants announcing his decision, the Deputy Governor shared: “I will retire from the Civil Service, exactly 44 years after I first began my journey as a young intern, and after 14 years serving as your Deputy Governor and Head of the Civil Service.” He indicated that he looks forward to spending time with family and embracing the next chapter of his life.

Mr. Manderson was appointed Deputy Governor and Head of the Civil Service in February 2012 by His Excellency The Governor in consultation with the United Kingdom’s Secretary of State. Prior to his appointment as Deputy Governor, Mr. Manderson served as Chief Immigration Officer and also Chief Officer in the Portfolio of Internal and External Affairs.

Recruitment of a new Deputy Governor will be led by Her Excellency The Governor over the coming months.

Honourable Franz Manderson is an Attorney at Law and a graduate of Liverpool University.

As Deputy Governor, Mr. Manderson is responsible for the management and performance of the Civil Service, which has a budget of over $1 billion and 4,800 Staff. He is a member of Cabinet and is the first official member of Parliament.

In 2018, Mr. Manderson was awarded an MBE by her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
